RANGANATHITTU ROUNDS

Image
Welcome viewers! I wish everyone belated Easter wishes. Easter is celebrated as the day of the resurrection of Christ. The easter reminds us of rabbits, baskets and colourful eggs.  Colourful eggs symbolise the new life and each colour has its own meaning. Well, what fascinates me is not the colourful eggs but the colourful birds which symbolise the beauty of this earth. "Sound of chirping birds is the best morning meditation music in the world"- says Nandini Gautam.  And watching birds is the best hobby any nature lover could practice.  Recently I had visited Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Mandya, Karnataka, India. It is the largest bird sanctuary in the state, about 170 species of birds have been recorded so far. It also provides a home for migrating birds from Siberia and northern parts of India. I could just get to see a few of them during my visit, so let me show you some of the colourful winged creatures I met.  A spotted dove ( Streptopelia chinensis ) and a

HOW TO GET RID OF STORED GRAIN PESTS?

Greetings everyone! Welcome to What's around us, I am back with another exciting article. Now a days I have been maddened by those tiny little ants trail moving everywhere around the kitchen, on the sugar containers and other sweet food. Tried using the ant traps but no use. Its not just the ants who are the stored grain thieves, yet there are many, like   weevils on rice, beetles on pulses, grain borer and tamarind pest.  Insects starts evolving resistance to chemical pesticides after some generations. So when these little creatures are smart enough to escape from our methods, then we should be a step ahead of them; initially fumigation with chemical pesticides, but there are some ill effects on human health by practicing it. So what could be the other methods to control them?? When I was doing my project research on the controlling of mosquito larvae, my Professor always wanted us to try plant extracts this makes up the implementation of biological

NATURALLY AVAILABLE FOOD COLORS

Greetings everyone, hope you are having a good time; its summer here in India, and all I want is some fresh fruits, juices and candies. Candies are the best sweet refreshing capsules to quest thirst during summers. Candies are available in all fruit flavors and colors. Colors??? Yes most of the candies and the packed food we eat contains artificial food colors, which are noted as carcinogens (cancer causing). Not just in candies, even in food stuffs like manchurians, kebabs, grills the meat or vegetables are colored artificially to enhance its attractiveness. Sensitive people get allergies and infections as soon as they consume such colored food substances. Even in my previous article 'Carcinogens' I had mentioned about the artificial food coloring agents and their ill effects. So how to overcome this?  Today's article is about the availability of vivid pigments from natural sources. I had briefly mentioned about natural pigments in my article 'EXHIBITION AT CFTRI
