SNAKE PARK CHENNAI

" No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn." "Easter is meant to be a symbol of hope renewal, and new life."

Happy Easter to all my viewers. I hope you are all doing good on these quarantine days. Wish to get those days back where we lived carefree, without mask or gloves or fear of social contact. Let this Easter bring us a new hope as we fight against the Covid-19. So let's enjoy this Resurrection day by having a look around the serpents residing in the Snake park, Chennai, India.

I have visited Chennai many times but this visit was not just a family get together. I visited the place where I was longing to go since long time. It's nothing but Snake park in Chennai. I was in a dilemma, whether to visit crocodile park or snake park..and finally landed up to snake park which didn't restrict by housing snakes alone but crocs too.

Chennai snake park is located in Guindy National park. This is India's first reptile park measuring about one acre home for Indian snakes, crocodiles and other reptiles. So let's have a look at our virtual destination " Chennai Snake Park".

This is the entrance of the park.

Entry fees 20rs for adults and if you have a video camera pay 20rs extra.
The campus has strictly prohibited the usage of plastic covers inside the premises.
There are wheel chair facilities too for disabled people.

This is the iguana showing unique pattern of body colouration. It changes its body colour as it grows old or during mating season.

This is a natural ecosystems, starting from the green plants (producers), frogs (primary consumers), chameleon (secondary consumers) and top carnivores being the snakes.

Stripe-necked turtle swimming freely all through the tank.

These are the rare species of lizards preserved for the display in museum.

Draco, the flying lizard of Western Ghats

Well, bow your heads to the King.. The one and only King Cobra (Naja hannah) endemic to Our Western Ghats.

Checkered keel back found below the earthen vessels towards your right. Sorry the picture is not so clear.

Gharial or fish eating crocs evolved from the Indian rivers.

Pythons have unjoined upper and lower jaw this adaptation helps them to engulf larger prey.

When you are here in Chennai Snake park don't just look into the cages.. there are amazing beauties outside the cage as well.

I spotted two wild varieties of mushroom on the same tree in different regions. I wish someone could help me out with the identification of these two.

Albino snakes, bamboo pit viper, Siamese crocodile, marsh crocodile, bronze back tree snake, green vine snake, stripped keel back, olive keel back, checkered keel back, Indian trinket snake, red sand boa, Whitaker's boa, Indian rat snake, star tortoise, Indochinese spitting cobra, common krait, Russell's viper like this array of snakes and other reptiles are lodging here in snake park.
Next time if you are checking in to Chennai then don't forget to visit The Guindy Snake Park it's worth going. Next to this there is a small zoo where some animals are kept and good place for kids to play. Once the lockdown is over then add Snake Park to your bucket list. I will be back with another interesting article. Till then stay home, stay safe, self quarantine and fight against Corona.
