Hi viewers! Welcome to 'Whats around us to explore'. I am back with yet another interesting article on Kukkarahali lake Mysuru. This time the lake has become

more beautiful!

more interesting!

                                more dangerous!

after completely drenching in rain water.

The lake has been overflowing with water and sadly there was a landslide in one of the path. So let me give you a walk through of the lake based on my visit on 22nd to 29th October 2022.

Starting from the University gate, greeting those flying foxes 'a lovely evening'! Honey bees with its secured comb built.

Flora:
My eyes caught this fruit which looks like miniature of watermelon! Need to check with the scientific name of the plant.

Next I could see plenty of divi divi fruits fallen on the ground. These trees were straight unlike the ones found in Curacao where it is always bent due to coastal winds. The fruit/pod is  always curved in this species.

Caesalpinia coriaria (divi divi)

Asystasia gangetica

Hibiscus Rosa sinensis

Plumeria pudica

Eichhornia

Wild ipomea species

Fauna: Invertebrata

Hasora chromus

2 species of snails floating in the water, giant land snail being one among it.

Birds like storks, cormorants, egrets collect the seeds of the trees from different places and sow it on the lake islands so that it can roost and breed.

These birds are busy restoring the lungs of Mysuru, what we humans are doing to conserve these wetlands?
Lots of plastic bottles, polythene bags etc dumped into the lake. Think about it.

Mycota/Fungi

This time I could spot 6-7 varities of wild mushrooms/toadstools, whose identification is pending yet.

Identifications have been made to the best of my knowledge, any corrections or suggestions are open👍

That's it for the day, will come back with yet another interesting article on Kukkarahali lake soon. Till then, keep logging in to'whats around us to explore'. Have a look at the snapshots witnessing the scenic beauty of the lake before seeing off!
