Hi guys, welcome to what's around us. Its the peak time for vacation plans in India, I think every Indian family will be planning for a nice holiday destination. Well, I have visited many places in south India, especially Kerala. But this time I will never forget our trip to Chooralmala hills of Wayanad district, Kerala. There is only one renowned resort in Chooralmala hills which is none other than 'Chateau woods'.   Chateau woods is the luxury resort of the district. It is the best place to stay and enjoy with your family. It is situated on the hillside in the 'Attamala' forests and coffee & tea plantations; the forest is also famous by the name Soochipura.   There is a private waterfall named after the place, 'Soochipura falls' and currently it is closed for some reasons. And a zip line adventurous activities in a 3km distance which is also closed temporarily for some reason. We could not see both the spots unluckily but had a great ti

Welcome to "What's around us"! Last week I had written about the birds of Rangantittu, today I will be continuing about the sanctuary, but not about the birds but on a small museum inside it named as "Dr Salim Ali Information Centre".   This is a small museum which is named after the famous ornithologist of India, Dr Salim Ali.   The sanctuary is also nicknamed as "Pakshi Kaashi" of Karnataka,  which means 'the sacred place for birds of Karnataka'. Around 221 bird species have been recorded; many migratory birds visit during the winter. Most of the birds breed during the winter time.  Chicks of three months old. This information centre has a small board quiz, photo gallery and calls of birds.        The sanctuary is also famous for the marshy crocodiles, there are nearly 100 of them in the place.   During my visit, I could spot a crocodile very near to the painted storks. Monitor lizard, snakes, b

Welcome viewers! I wish everyone belated Easter wishes. Easter is celebrated as the day of the resurrection of Christ. The easter reminds us of rabbits, baskets and colourful eggs.  Colourful eggs symbolise the new life and each colour has its own meaning. Well, what fascinates me is not the colourful eggs but the colourful birds which symbolise the beauty of this earth. "Sound of chirping birds is the best morning meditation music in the world"- says Nandini Gautam.  And watching birds is the best hobby any nature lover could practice.  Recently I had visited Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Mandya, Karnataka, India. It is the largest bird sanctuary in the state, about 170 species of birds have been recorded so far. It also provides a home for migrating birds from Siberia and northern parts of India. I could just get to see a few of them during my visit, so let me show you some of the colourful winged creatures I met.  A spotted dove ( Streptopelia chinensis ) and a

HOW TO GET RID OF STORED GRAIN PESTS?

Greetings everyone! Welcome to What's around us, I am back with another exciting article. Now a days I have been maddened by those tiny little ants trail moving everywhere around the kitchen, on the sugar containers and other sweet food. Tried using the ant traps but no use. Its not just the ants who are the stored grain thieves, yet there are many, like   weevils on rice, beetles on pulses, grain borer and tamarind pest.  Insects starts evolving resistance to chemical pesticides after some generations. So when these little creatures are smart enough to escape from our methods, then we should be a step ahead of them; initially fumigation with chemical pesticides, but there are some ill effects on human health by practicing it. So what could be the other methods to control them?? When I was doing my project research on the controlling of mosquito larvae, my Professor always wanted us to try plant extracts this makes up the implementation of biological
