QUILL CUMULATION

Good day everyone. Do u know which is the most softest thing in the world? Cotton, baby cheeks, hair, feather etc. Well I would say that feather is the softest thing ever in the world. They add on the beauty of birds. Appears in various colours, size, shape. Have you ever tried to collect feathers of birds? When I was a kid, my friends used to keep the features of peacock inside the book thinking it will double. Sounds funny, Isn't it? I guess even you might have heard some of the myths and superstitious beliefs about feathers. If u have any of them in your mind share it in the comment box.

I have a small collection of feathers, most of them are collected by my students. Someone have said this right, "feather appear when angels are real". Initially I didn't had any plans of making this a hobby, but as I started collecting them admiring their beauty and feeling it's softness, I am truly enjoying this new hobby of mine.

Feathers are the exoskeleton of avian species. They are mainly seen in birds. Previously some of the dinosaurs are also said to have recorded with feathers. Feathers are the integumentary system, which covers the body of birds and helps them to fly. Feather plays a major role in identifying the bird species.

The study of feathers is called plumology. Where plumo refers to plumage/ feather and logy refers to study.

Feathers were used as pen in olden days before the invention of pens. Feathers are used in making earrings, lockets, decorating dresses, clutches etc.

In some parts of India feathers of fowls are used to remove the excess earwax from the ears. This practice is may be due to the soft texture of feathers. But I would advice not to try this as the fowls have more risk of microbial infections.

Feathers collected in the sites where common crow, common myna and purple sunbird is predominant..

Feathers has a central shaft called rachis with paired branches called barbs. The barbs are slightly longer in one side. I have no idea whether this is true in all species and no clue about the reason behind it.

Feathers are the most beautiful and colourful things that have been found in nature. It is truly a great pleasure in making this collection of feathers as a hobby. I would humbly request you to not to harvest feathers by hunting them. We don't want to miss the beauties of sky for decorating our household stuffs. I just pick the fallen feathers from the ground and check for its conditions to store. Always remember feathers appears when angels are near.
